Liar's Dice
One kit. Endless games.
Setup and Objective
Players: Two or more people (best with 3 to 6 players).
Equipment: Each player gets five dice and an opaque cup.
Goal: Be the last player with at least one die remaining.
How to Play a Round
Roll: All players shake their dice in their cups and slam them face-down on the table.
Peek: Each player lifts their cup slightly to look at their own dice in secret, keeping them hidden from everyone else.
First Bid: A starting player makes a bid stating a quantity and a face value (for example, "Three Fours" means the player believes there are at least three 4s total on the table).
Turns: Moving clockwise, the next player has two choices on their turn:
- Raise the Bid: Make a higher bid. You can increase the quantity of the same face value (e.g., "Four Fours"), keep the quantity the same and increase the face value (e.g., "Three Fives"), or increase both.
- Call Liar (Challenge): Challenge the previous player's bid if you think they are bluffing.
Wild Ones
Ones are wild: Dice showing a "1" count as the face value currently being bid, unless a player opened the round by bidding on ones.
Resolving a Challenge
When a player calls "Liar," all hidden dice are revealed.
If the bid was a lie (overestimated): The bidder loses one die.
If the bid was true or exact (underestimated or correct): The challenger loses one die.
Elimination: When a player loses all five dice, they are out of the game. The loser of the previous round starts the next round.
