The Deal and Blinds
The Button: A round disc indicates the dealer position and moves clockwise after each hand.
The Blinds: Forced bets are placed before the deal to start the pot. The player directly left of the button posts the small blind, and the next player posts the big blind.
Hole Cards: Each player receives two private cards face-down.
The Four Betting Rounds
Pre-Flop: The first betting round happens after players look at their two hole cards, starting with the player left of the big blind.
The Flop: The dealer places three community cards face-up in the middle of the table, followed by a second round of betting.
The Turn: A fourth community card is dealt face-up, followed by the third betting round.
The River: The fifth and final community card is dealt face-up, followed by the last round of betting.
Betting Actions
Check: Pass the action to the next person without betting, if no one has bet yet.
Bet: Wager chips into the pot.
Call: Match the exact amount of another player's bet.
Raise: Increase the amount of an existing bet.
Fold: Give up your cards and forfeit any chance at winning the current pot.
Showdown and Hand Rankings
At the showdown, remaining players make the best possible five-card hand using any combination of their two private hole cards and the five shared community cards.
Hands rank from best to worst as follows:
Royal Flush: A, K, Q, J, 10 all of the same suit
Straight Flush: Five consecutive cards of the same suit
Four of a Kind: Four cards of identical rank
Full House: Three of a kind plus a pair
Flush: Five cards of the same suit (not sequential)
Straight: Five consecutive cards (mixed suits)
Three of a Kind: Three matching rank cards
Two Pair: Two separate pairs
One Pair: Two matching cards
High Card: Highest single card when no other combination is made
